Are online casinos legal in Canada?
It depends on your province. Ontario and, since July 13, 2026, Alberta license private online casinos, and only those registered operators may serve players there. Every other province runs its own government casino site. Offshore-licensed casinos like the ones on this page accept players from those provinces, but they are not regulated by any Canadian authority. Our province-by-province guide explains the details.
Why can't I use these casinos in Ontario or Alberta?
Both provinces require online casinos to be registered locally, and affiliate sites may only promote registered operators there. The casinos on this page are not registered in either province, so we don't link to them for Ontario or Alberta players.
What is the legal gambling age?
19 in most provinces and territories, and 18 in Manitoba, Québec and Alberta.
Do I pay tax on casino winnings in Canada?
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada. Professional gamblers can be taxed on gambling income. If you're unsure which applies to you, speak to an accountant.
